Cashier Screen
The POS screen is the cashier's main workspace. Search products, build a cart, and process payments quickly.
How to Use
Step 1: Find Products
- Search: Type a product name or code in the search box. Results filter as you type.
- Browse: Scroll through the product grid.
- Barcode Scanner: Scan the item. It is added to the cart automatically. See Barcode Scanning.
Step 2: Build the Cart
- Add items: Click or tap a product tile to add it to the cart (right panel).
- Adjust quantity: Use the + and − buttons next to each item.
- Remove items: Click the trash button to remove an item.
- The cart shows each item's line total and a running subtotal and total.
Step 3: Process Payment
- Click the "Charge" button.
- In the payment dialog:
- Choose Cash or Card.
- For cash, enter the amount the customer hands you. The system calculates change due.
- Click "Confirm Payment" to complete the sale.
Step 4: After the Sale
- A "Sale Complete" confirmation appears with the sale number.
- You can print a receipt from this screen. See Receipt Printing.
- The cart clears automatically, ready for the next customer.
Visual Indicators
- Greyed-out products: Out of stock or inactive. They cannot be added to the cart.
- All amounts display in your store's configured currency.
FAQ
Q: Can I use the POS on a tablet or phone?
A: Yes. The POS is responsive. On smaller screens, you can toggle between the product grid and the cart view.
Q: What if I add the wrong product?
A: Remove it from the cart using the trash button, or reduce the quantity to zero.
Q: Why is a product greyed out?
A: The product is either out of stock or has been deactivated by an admin.
Q: Can I search by barcode number manually?
A: Yes. Type the barcode into the search box and press Enter.
Q: What if the payment fails?
A: You will see an error message (e.g. "Insufficient stock"). The sale is not recorded and no stock is deducted.
Q: Can I process a sale without choosing a customer?
A: Yes. Attaching a customer is optional. Walk-in sales work without a customer record.
Q: Who can access the POS screen?
A: Cashiers, Managers, and Admins can all use the POS.
