Setting a Product's Unit (Admin Only)
- Open Products → Add Product or Edit Product.
- Find the Unit of Measure dropdown (near the Price field).
- Select the appropriate unit. The price label updates to "Price per kg", "Price per L", etc.
- Enter the stock quantity in that unit.
- Save.
TIP
The selector groups units into Recommended (relevant to your business type) and Other units. All units are always available. The grouping is just a convenience.
How Stock Works for Weighted Items
When you receive 50 kg of rice, stock shows 50.000 kg. Each sale of 0.750 kg reduces it to 49.250 kg. Small measurement differences accumulate over time. This is normal. Use a Correction stock adjustment to reset stock after a physical count.
Quantities in Purchase Orders
When creating a purchase order for a weighted product, enter the quantity in that product's unit (e.g. 100 kg of sugar). When receiving goods, enter the actual quantity received (e.g. 98.500 kg if there was a shortfall).
FAQ
Q: Will my existing products be affected?
A: No. All current products automatically stay as "Each." Nothing changes unless you choose to set a different unit when creating a new product.
Q: Can I mix products by piece and by weight in the same store?
A: Absolutely. Each product has its own unit. They work side by side in the same POS cart.
Q: What if my stock numbers for loose items drift over time?
A: This is expected. Use a Correction stock adjustment to reset to the physically counted value. For spoilage, use a Wastage adjustment.
Q: Can I change a product's unit after creating it?
A: Yes, but be careful. Changing the unit does not convert the stock number. For example, 50 pieces would become "50.000 kg", which is wrong. Do a stock correction immediately after changing the unit.
Q: Why do I see "Recommended" and "Other units" in the unit selector?
A: The system shows units most commonly used by your type of business first. All units are still available under "Other units."
